The WPT World Championship Festival has been a huge success in its second year partnering with Wynn Las Vegas. The opening $600 event drew a massive field of 4,950 entries and a $2.5 million prize pool. Other tournaments have also been popular, with the featured $2 million guarantee Mystery Bounty, $5 million WPT Prime, $40 million WPT World Championship and the high-roller Big One for One Drop adding to the record turnout.

Tournament Highlights

Among those still remaining in the $10,400 entry WPT Championship event are past WPT Champions Chris Moorman (10.2 million chips), Roberto Romanello (4 million) and two-time WPT Champion Alex Foxen (4.4 million), who spiked a ten on the turn for a set of tens to stay alive against a pocket pair of jacks with both players all-in pre-flop in Day 4.

Alex was joined by his wife, poker pro Kristen Foxen (10.3 million), at the WPT featured table late in Day 4, with both players advancing to Day 5.

Also, Princess Love (3.6 million) is enjoying the thrill of making a deep tournament run after learning how to play poker less than one year ago. The reality TV star of Love & Hip Hop fame is providing her 3.8 million followers on Instagram, and amateur poker players around the world, added excitement with pokerā€™s popularity and her guaranteed six-figure score.

Same for Andres Campero (5.1 million), who has already turned a freeroll and $55 satellite into more than $111,000 after he won his way to Las Vegas via a freeroll on WPT Global. Campero has a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Brain and Cognitive Sciences.

ā€œI played a freeroll where I won a $55 ticket to a step satellite. I won a $220 (ticket) and then I won that $220 (satellite)ā€“only one player won. So that was fortunate and thatā€™s why Iā€™m here.ā€

And thatā€™s what tournament poker is all about. The stories, social and game experiences…and a big poker payoff.

Day 3 chip leader Artur Martirosian (11.2 million) is still in contention and in 11th chip position into Day 5 Tuesday. However, there are four players with larger chip stacks at his table to start Day 5.

Other past WPT Champions who made a deep run into Day 4 before busting out include Alessio Isaia, Jack Hardcastle, Ben Palmer, Vitalijs Zavorotnijs and Davidi Kitai. Last yearā€™s WPT World Championship main event winner Eliot Hudon ($4.1 million) finished in the top 5 percent of the 2023 field and cashed for $27,000 in 189th place.

WPT ambassador Brad Owen cashed for $53,500 on Day 4 with his JJ in the small blind all-in for 2.1 million over a bet and 3-bet button raise. But the big blind picked up pocket kings (KK) and knocked out Owen in a heads-up hand for nearly $5 million in chips. Owen finished 35th and cashed for $99,000 in last yearā€™s WPT World Championship inaugural event at Wynn Las Vegas.

You can watch the WPT World Championship livestreamed on the WPT YouTube channel with a 30 minute delay.

The Poker Fan’s Ultimate Guide to the WPT World ChampionshipAmong other notables and highlights deep into Day 4 was WPT Co-Founder Lyle Berman. The 82-year-old from Minneapolis made a prolific run in the 2023 WPT World Championship and finished in 89th place for a $47,100 score.

ā€œWhen we first founded the WPT, me and Steve Limpscomb, I didnā€™t think, ā€˜20 years from now, it would still be going, and not just strong, but stronger than ever,ā€ Berman said on Day 4.

Lyle Berman spoke alongside current WPT CEO Adam Pliska on Day 1D of the 2023 WPT World … + Championship.

WPT Prime Championship

The final table of the WPT Prime Championship will play down to a winner on Tuesday, December 19 with the TV final table starting at 4 p.m. PT and also live-streamed. The 10,516 entries made the $1,100 buy-in event the single largest live WPT-branded tournament field of all time, with a prize pool of $10,196,640 - double the $5 million guarantee. The winner of the No-Limit Hold ā€˜em tournament will earn the top prize of $1,386,280.

Former WPT Player of the Year Mukul Pahuja finished in seventh place to set up the TV Final Table.

WPT Big One For One Drop

After a 5-year hiatus, the Big One for One Drop tournament has made its return in WPT style. Day 2 of the $1 million entry is Tuesday and the TV Final Table is Wednesday, December 20. A star-studded field of super high-stakes players take aim at a $7.1 million top prize. The field of 17 players includes the whoā€™s who of elite high roller poker players headlined by 10-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner and past WPT champion Phil Ivy. However, Ivy was one of the first players to bust out and will not appear in his 10th WPT final table.

The tournament chip leader into Day 2 is Dan Smith, who has $3.68 million from a starting chip stack of $1 million. Smith and Fedor Holz (630,000 chips) both cashed in the 2018 Big One for One Drop, taking third ($4 million) and second place ($6 million) respectively.

Isaac Haxton, who has earned more than $15.5 million already this year to top the 2023 Money List, sits at $1.16 million chips into Day 2. Jason Koon, a 3-time WPT final table participant, has $1.02 million chips.
