Biography
Dan Smith’s name first appeared on the live tournament circuit in 2008 when the young American took down the Heartland Poker Tour Verona $1,500 Main Event and went home with $101,960 in cash. Since then things only got better for Smith, he’s now considered as one of the best poker players in the world. He’s won over $38 million in live tournament earnings, which is good to put him in seventh-place on The Hendon Mob All Time Money List.
Intro
Dan Smith is an American professional poker player currently residing in Las Vegas, Nevada. Smith started traveling the poker circuit in 2008, but only switched to a higher gear in 2010 when he cashed in two World Series of Poker (WSOP) Events. In 2011 he scored his first World Poker Tour (WPT) money finish and got four more WSOP cashes. However, the year 2012 by far has been the most successful for the young poker prodigy. He won the $100,000 Challenge event at the Aussie Millions, then won three European Poker Tour (EPT) Grand Final side events in Monte Carlo, made six WSOP money finishes including one final table, and then collected the EPT Barcelona Super High Roller title. Over the next ten years, Smith would go on to cement himself as one of the all time great poker tournament players. He then had 19 recorded tournament wins from 2013-2022, picking up more titles at the EPT as well as claiming his maiden victories at the WSOP and WPT. In 2014, Smith founded Double Up Drive, which has helped raise over $24.7 million for charities. Read More: Run It Once, Dan Smith Driving Charity Effort in Response to Pandemic
World Series of Poker
Smith collected his first WSOP cash in 2010 when he finished in 383rd place in the $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em event for $1,877. However, this was only the beginning as he scored eleven more money finishes since then. He’s biggest World Series cash came in the $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em event in the summer of 2012. Smith finished that event in third place and took home almost $370,000 in prize money. Smith then notched nine WSOP final table appearances from 2013-2021 , with five third-place finishes as well as being a runner-up. His second-place finish at the 2016 WSOP in Event #67: High Roller for One Drop - $111,111 No-Limit Hold’em netted him $3,078,974. Two years later, he picked up a $4,000,000 payday in Event #78: The Big One for One Drop - $1,000,000 No-Limit Hold’em. In 2022, Smith finally took his name off of the best players without a bracelet list when he triumphed at the 2022 WSOP in the $25,000 Heads-Up Championship.
